| Who is the East Coast Index? We have been asked, who is the East Coast Index?
This will be the third shootout that the Pennsylvania/Maryland Basketball
Shootout has asked the East Coast Index to evaluate the players and to allow us
to publish their evaluation.
The evaluation is done by Robby Marusak, who currently lives in the Pocono
area in Blakeslee. Mr. Marusak has a long basketball background.
He was the starting point guard on the 1971 Hazleton St. Gabriel's State
Championship team.

In 1967, in the PCIAA Class C State Championship Game,
St. Gabriel's of Hazleton defeated Northeast St. Gregory 68-60. The losing
coach for Northeast St. Gregory in the game was Pete White who runs the Keystone
State Shootouts.
The East Coast associate is Dennis Olexa, the fabled point guard who played for
Joe Donahue at Kings College.

What will the East Coast Index do at our Shootout? They will
evaluate the players and prepare a list for us, the same as they have done in he
past two shootouts. That list will be posted on our website for players,
parents, and coaches to see.
Currently, Robbie Marusak roots for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and their manager,
Joe Maddon his long time friend from back in Hazleton. Their athletic
roots go way back, Joe was the shortstop and Robbie was the second baseman on
two Hazleton Teener State Championship baseball teams (they were called
the Molly Maguires). The film, the Molly Maguires was being
shot at that time at Eckley Miners Village north of Hazleton. See this article
