St. Mary's Coterie  2007June 7-11

The Beaches Restaurant,  Headquarters for the Coterie Meeting held a "Welcome Social" for the coterie on the first day of the conference.

The Portland Rose Festival's Centennial Grand Floral Parade is the single-largest spectator event in Oregon, more than 500,000 spectators including (Left to right),  Bill Gaffey, Jack Brown, and Dan Connors watched the 4.3 mile parade.  Bands were judged near the intersection of NE Martin Luther King Boulevard and NE Multnomah Street.  At this vantage point, Coterie members especially wanted to see the Grambling Band perform.

Bruce Reed (left), the 2007 Coterie Host explains  to  Bill Gaffey (right)  that the Coterie voted to apply for 501-c, non-profit, non-taxable status.  However, we do not have an IRS response yet.
 
Emphazing the position of he St. Marys Coterie, Tom Connors reminded the participants at the Global Warming Conference that  "the U.S. emits a quarter of the world's greenhouse gases."  He further questioned the position of the U.S. and  Australia for  pulling out of the Kyoto Protocol treaty after it had been ratified by 156 nations.

Pat Gaffey (left) and Bruce Reed (right) display their catches for the camera. After fishing, the Coterie visited  the  Bonneville Dam, navigation locks  and the underground windows in the visitor center which offer  a rare, up close view of migrating salmon and steelhead passing through the fish ladder on their way to spawning grounds.
(Note: The Bonneville Dam was built during the Roosevelt administration in the 1930's).

The Connors brothers, Tom (foreground) and Dan (background) at the gaming casino (the second stop of the day).  They reminisced about when they were on the other side of the counter working for their father at the restaurant on Erie Avenue in St. Mary's.
As the event comes to an end on the fourth day, Dan Connors waves goodbye to Pat Gaffey and Jack Brown after reminding them that the 2008 meeting of the St. Mary's Coterie will take place in San Luis Obispo, California.  Dan will act as the official host for that meeting.
