Prystal Scouting Report:
The 64 team Stellar
Varsity Tourney had a march madness feel to it. Quad-A Parkland brought
home the gold with a 49-35 effort over Williamsport. Parkland went 7-0 and
won 5 of the 7 games by double digits. There were many great games over the
weekend. Parkland got by AAA Susquehanna Twp. 46-43 on a three pointer at
the horn by MJ Miorelli. Hanna was in the mix all weekend , but could not
quite get to the top. Upset of the weekend, went to Bethlehem Liberty
getting past Harrisburg High behind 19 points from Trevor VanAckeren! The
Mike Tyson award goes to the Chester vs. Trinity game where one of the
players was accused of biting. Chester won by 3. Another entertaining game!
Tourney MVP was Jaleel Clark of Parkland 64 and very tough!

Stellar Tournament and the 12th 'Rising Star'
Keith Groller | Of The Morning Call --July
12, 2007
(Article condensed by pahoops)
For four days, Cedar Beach becomes ''Basketballtown'' with players, coaches
and lawnchair-carrying fans converging on West Allentown.
''It's really like a basketball reunion because you see guys that you haven't
seen all summer or even for a year or so,'' said Ed Ohlson, Sr., the current
Northampton head coach who coached Parkland to two Stellar titles in 1998 and
2000.
''I've been a part of several programs and it's great to see so many past
players and coaches you know, but haven't necessarily seen for awhile. That's
why the kids look forward to it, too. They know there's a lot of people
watching. Most play AAU ball and here's a chance for them to see their friends
play and their friends to see them.''
Ohlson said players know that a lot of college coaches also circle the Stellar
tourney on their calendars.
''Players know that it's also a chance for them to get a lot of exposure,''
Ohlson said. ''It's really the highlight of their summer seasons. Sometimes I
think we play all of the summer league games as a tuneup to this event.'' Klein and his long-time Stellar assistant, former Palmerton coach John Hrebik,
consider themselves to be among the biggest winners because they get to do what
they love to do -- organize and run an event for kids and community.
Both say it's the highlight of their summer. They work hard, but enjoy every
minute of it, and when it ends, they're tired but already looking forward to
next year.
''Glen is able to get a 64-team tournament done in four days where it takes the
NCAA people three weeks to do the same thing,'' Hrebik said. ''And the NCAA is a
single-elimination tournament. This is double-elimination. It's a lot of fun. It
really is.

Stellar, a former 1,000-point scorer at Salisbury High, has accomplished
many things in the business world with his Stellar Constr uction Company. But
he's as proud to have his name attached to the Stellar Construction ''Catch
A Rising Star'' High School Basketball Tournament, the signature event of
Lehigh Valley SportsFest, as he is with any million-dollar construction
project."
