Championship Performances Greg Manning of Steelton-Highspire scored 57 points against Nanticoke in the state quarter finals at the Farm Show Building in Harrisburg on March 19 1977. Gerry McNamara, Scranton Bishop Hannan scored 55 points in the AA Eastern Finals in an 83-76 win over Trinity at Martz Hall in Pottsville in 2002. He had 41 the first half!!! Preview and predictions Class AAAA-Final Four: Penn Wood (District 1, No. 1 seed) vs. Hempfield (3-2); and Plymouth Whitemarsh (1-2) vs. Mt. Lebanon (7-1). Semifinal winners: Penn Wood and Plymouth Whitemarsh. Champion: In a rematch of last week's District 1 final, won in overtime by the Patriots, the Colonials triumph, 71-66, and bring home their first state crown since 1997.
Class AAA-Final
Four: Eastern York
(3-1) vs. Neumann-Goretti (12-1); and Chartiers Valley (7-1) vs. Hampton
(7-2). Semifinal winners: Neumann-Goretti and Chartiers Valley.
Champion: The Saints, beyond focused after losing in the quarterfinals
last year, race past Wayne Capers and the Colts, 74-53.
Class AA-Final
Four: Imhotep Charter
(12-1) vs. Hughesville (4-1); and South Fayette (7-3) vs. Rochester (7-2).
Semifinal winners: Hughesville and South Fayette. Champion:
Playing the Cinderella role right to the end, South Fayette surprises
Hughesville, 54-53, in overtime.
Class A-Final
Four: Reading Central
Catholic (3-1) vs. Greenwood (3-2); and Sewickley Academy (7-1) vs. Serra
Catholic (7-4). Semifinal winners: Reading Central Catholic and
Sewickley. Champion: Sewickley brings home its first title since
1997 with a 73-61 victory.
