NCAA rules allow players to participate in only two all-star games; however, participation in shootouts does not count against that total. Players may play in as many shootouts as they desire. The two game limit for all-star games was inspired by an incident that involved a 7' player from a Washington, D.C. high school around 1980. He played in seven all-star games in his senior year and never returned to high school to complete his education and earn his diploma. He just traveled from all-star game to all-star game being given sneakers, travel bags, uniforms, air travel, food, and hotel rooms. At that time, the top all-star games like the Dapper Dan Roundball Game in Pittsburgh flew all-star participants along their coach to the game site and provided the player and the coach with hotel and food (three meals a day) from Tuesday until the game on Friday. Players received sneakers, uniforms, practice gear and special treatment and then were flown home on Saturday. If you were a young kid, how would seven weeks of that appeal to you? Don't offer this deal to your mother, she might be gone for seven weeks!
