To register and guarantee yourself a spot in the 2002 summer class, call the Susquehanna Twp. High School Guidance Office at 657-5117, or call Mr. Gaffey at home 545-0872.   This is an opportunity to use computer technology and distance learning to offer an exciting way to learn and get credit. Students can work at home, at school, or on a laptop with unlimited flexibility and the support of an online instructor.
You don't have to miss your vacation; you can hold a summer job! The course will use Mr. Gaffey's website, funbrain.com and blackboard.com to deliver the course. Blackboard.com allows for both synchronous and asynchronous opportunites.
This course is designed to take adavatage of today's technology and engage students in an exciting and informative way to make up Global Studies.
Note: An hour is equal to a class period. Once the course starts, hours will be translated into virtual class modules. The schedule will have starting points for each module and deadlines for finishing each module. This will all be done in the asynchronous mode. However, there will be specific dates and times that the class will meet in groups in the synchronous mode in assigned chat groups.
Definitions:   synchronous mode-happening at the same time. An opportunity for the class and the instructor to discuss items that are specific to the course. Plans call for this to be done with groups of six students and the instructor. In this mode the instructor and the assigned group of students must be on line at the same time and date.

asynchronous mode-not happening at the same time. The instructor will post assignments and set deadlines for their completion. The student completes the assignments at any time as long as they are completed by the assigned deadlines. In this mode, the instructor and the student need not be online at the same time or the same date.

Exam Guidelines:
The Mid-Term and the Final Exam must be completed under the supervision of a certified proctor. This could be the Guidance Counselor at your school. Students must pass these tests to get credit for the course. All other tests will be posted on line and provided in a modified asynchronous mode. There will be a specified time and date and students will be expected to complete them within that time.
