Assignment 1-
a. Read pp38 to 49.
b. Label the outline map of Africa (see the map on p 40). Place the following
countries on your map: Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia,
Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Swaziland, South Africa, Nigeria, Zaire(the
Republic of Congo). Add the capital cities of these countries. Add to your
maps: the equator, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, Great
Rift Valley, Lake Victoria, Atlas Mountains, Sahara Desert, Kalahari Desert,
Zaire River, Red Sea, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, and
Indian Ocean.
c. From your reading identify the following terms with a definition: savanna,
desertification, Sahel, tsetse fly
