Pennsylvania sweeps Maryland in
31st Annual Roundball Showcase
Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Calvin Grumley, the Johnsonburg All-State basketball selection scored 6 points and played a strong floor game as Pennsylvania defeated Maryland in the  31st Annual Roundball showcase held Saturday night in Harrisburg.

Pennsylvania took both games, the boys won 91-86 and the ladies won in overtime 89-84. These were the final two games of a six-game set of games between the Mid Penn and other senior players from the area as well as from around the state of Pennsylvania.
Early in the game, Pennsylvania couldn't find an answer for David Pearman of Oakland Hills High School (University of Maryland recruit) as he nailed three treys and added a bucket for 11 points. Maryland State Champion Atholton High School contributed teammates Torey Fossett and Sam Purmutt who combined for 15 in the first half.
Both teams featured 7’0” players, but in the second half it was 6’7” University of Pittsburgh football recruit Jordan Gibbs from Penn Manor High School who took over the game. Gibbs controlled the boards as well and used his left-hand and tremendous girth to drop in four buckets as well as a couple of three-point plays. He tallied 20 points and added 11 rebounds. The last time a football recruit dominated the all-star game came a number of years ago when Chris Doleman from York High School and then Minnesota Vikings NFL fame played.
The Roundball Showcase featuring the Pennsylvania vs Maryland series is now the longest running post season all star game in Pennsylvania since the Dapper Dan Roundball Game folded in 1995. The Dapper Dan Games started by Sonny Vaccaro ran for 27 years from 1965 to 1992. The Roundball Showcase Games started in 1976 and have now run for 31 years.
