Michael S. Mentzer age 61, of Harrisburg died on Wednesday, 11/23/2011. Son of
the late Clara and John Mentzer.
He is survived by his wife Dottie Mentzer, their daugh-ters; Michelle,
Christie, and Misty, their grandchildren; Shaylisha, Lexus Allen, Alivia and
Michael Jones, and Janelle Russell-Mentzer, all of Harrisburg. His sister June
McNeal of Mechanicsburg and his brothers; Larry, of San Antonio, Texas and
Robert Gambler of Harrisburg.
He was a lifetime employee of Unilever Best Foods in Harrisburg. He was
confirm-ed in the christian faith and proud to be an american.
He was a 1968 graduate of John Harris High School. Most people remember
him as "The Real Voice of the Harrisburg Cougars", for 30 years. He loved
being in-volved with the Athletic Department at the Harris-burg School
District. He loved watching the athletes succeed on and off the field. He was
a longtime coach for Midget Baseball of Harris-burg at the Boyer East League.
He was a coach for the
Harrisburg American Legion Baseball Team. He was the Head Coach of the
Harrisburg High School Cougars 1990 City Champion-ship Baseball Team. He was a
former radio color analysis for High School Football and Basketball and for
the semi-pro Harrisburg Patriots Football team in their initial year. He was
the longtime public address voice of the Midstate Roundball Show-case and the
Semi-Pro Harris-burg Horizion Basketball Team.
Per his wishes there will be no viewing or funeral. A small service for
immediate family members only has taken place.
