Playoff Trivia:
The Chester High School Boys earned a berth in the PIAA playoffs for the thirteenth straight year and for the 23rd time in 25 years. Coach Harry DeFrank has had his Trinity girls in the PIAA playoffs in each of the 21 years he has coached the Shamrocks. But then again, he has an advantage coaching the Shamrocks around March 17th each year, St. Patrick's Day! Now the AA boys match up between York Catholic and Trinity will be different-they are both the Shamrocks! The overwhelming strength of the Philadelphia Public schools in this year's state playoffs has faded into the wind. In boys action, Whitehall erased one Public League entry, Frankford 62-40 and Plymouth Whitemarsh nudged Philadelphia Central 53-51 after eliminating Simon Gratz earlier in the tournament 71-64. On the girls side, Central, Frankford, and University City were all sent home in the first round. Kobe

The Red Sox Curse Lives (For Hockey)
The
Boston Red Sox curse still lives, at least for hockey fans. When the Red Sox won
the series in 1918, the following season’s Stanley Cup playoffs were canceled
because of an influenza epidemic. Then everything went along fine for 85 years,
with the Sox losing and the Cup being awarded. But then, last fall, the Red Sox
won another series and, sure enough, hockey fans must now again suffer a Cupless
season. (Credit: Tom Klink)
Coaching Victory Leaders in Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh North Catholic's Don Graham (801-436), Forest City’s Jules Prezelski's (757-290) and Northwest's Ed Gayeski (744-195) –however “Renzie” Hoffman, who coached for 30 years, 17 years at Clintonville High School and 13 years at Mercer High School claims over 1,000 wins. In most of those thirty years, he coached both the Junior Varsity and the Varsity, boys and girls. His record was 1,255wins and 311 loses. Can any other coach in Pennsylvania make such a statement? But, he also coached football at both schools, totaling 21 years with a record of 89-36-10. Wow!
