Baldwin missses 2,000.  Jonathan Baldwin of Aliquippa finished his high school career with 1.890 career points. His team was upset in the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs and he needed a little bit of a run to get 2,000 points. (Fayette County Guru)

On Jan 30, 2008, Philadelphia Northeast defeated Philadelphia Central ending Central's 101 game league winning streak.

Feb 08: Congratulations to Conemaugh Township H. S. Three girls on the same team score 1,000 points in the same season. Can anyone else say that?  Conemaugh Township H. S. (District 5) is making  history this year:
 Stephanie Straka (#10), Megan Maurer (#42), and Jamie Gennett (#22) have all scored over 1,000 points this season.  They have led the team to 4 straight 20 win seasons.

Now four players in one season with over 1,000 points
On 2/7/08, Kevin Byer from the Conemaugh Township boy's basketball team reached the 1,000 point list.  Two previous Conemaugh Township boys are members of the Pennsylvania 2,000 Point Club, and their name is Byer also, Kevin's cousins.  Andy Byer, (2001-05, 2,360 pts) and Paul Byer (1996-2000, 2,505 pts).  So now three Byers have gone over the 1,000 point mark at CTHS.

-Reading opens District play at 26-0  and they are led by Fall Shootout All Star Jordan Burdine.
12/20/07, Pat Sharr, 5-10 senior combo guard from West Mont Christian Academy (Pottstown), hit his career number 200 3-balls  against rival Lehigh Christian Academy.  He then reached the 1,000 point mark  in a win against Perkiomen School.
12/6/07, Jason Kuch of Cocalico hit a baseline drive with 4 seconds left in double OT to lift Cocalico to a 63-61 over ELCO. He finished the game with 26 points.

12/12/07, Travis Dunlap,  Annville-Cleona dropped 24 in a 53-36 win over Lampeter Strasburg. (Lebanon Daily News)

12/9/07, Holy Cross 56-ES Notre Dame 38- Nico Fricchione (a standout at the Pennsylvania/Maryland Shootout in October)  scored 19 points and Mark Bevaqua added 10 as the Crusaders defeated East Stroudsburg Notre Dame. (Scranton Times-Tribune)

12/30/07, Jermaine Marshall had 20 and Kendall Hinze had 19 in a Red Land 83-76 victory over arch rival Cedar Cliff. Jermaine Marshall is a 6’5” Junior who has been rated as a Mid-Major Division 1 propsect by the Prystal Scouting Service after he attended the PA vs. Maryland Spring Shootout at PSU Harrisburg.

1/23/08,  Fall Shootout Alum Andrew Nicholas, Eastern York drops 31 on Susquehanna Twp.. He is a 6’4” Freshman and is on pace as just a frosh to become the all time leading scorer in school history!
1/22/08, Pat Sharr, West Mont Christian Academy will be honored at the Annual Philadelphia Markward Dinner.
1/11/08, PA vs. MD Shootout All Star Alumni Nate Myers 6’2” Jr., Annville-Cleona is averaging 14.6. He hit the final Free Throw of the game to preserve a 41-39 victory over Northern Lebanon.

Chris Keith (20 points) and Kyle McConnell (19 points) helped 12-2 Cedar Crest to a 54-48 win over Elizabethtown.

12/29/07, Chris Klimchock helped give Class AAA No. 4 Greensburg Salem (8-3) local bragging rights, as his two free throws in the final minute gave the host Golden Lions a 57-56 tournament victory against Class AA No. 4 Greensburg Central Catholic (8-3).
12/26/07,
Mitchell Kemp hit a running floater near the foul line with 3 seconds remaining to give the Trojans a 49-48 win  in the 19th annual Special Olympics Holiday Classic at York County Tech and Kemp was named the tournament's MVP.
12/28/07, Ashton Bankos  led York Catholic to their 57th straight win, a  47-41 victory over  Central York  to win the Panther Christmas Classic for the third straight year.
12/28/07, Kyle McConnell dropped 15 pts  in a 63-48 Christmas Tourney Championship win for Cedar Crest over Hershey. Kyle is a two time PA vs. Maryland Shootout All Star and a one time PA vs. Maryland Basketball camp All Star. He was named MVP.

1/3/08, Ben Hoffer, Yough (2009) has made 34 of 35 free throws the past four games.
12/31/07,
Schenley senior Deandre Kane made 15 of 15 free throws and netted 37 points to pace the Spartans (11-1) in a 70-65 win against Connellsville (7-5) in the Greensburg Salem tournament.
12/30/07,
Kristen Gilroy, Bensalem hit six straight free throws in the final 24 seconds to seal the win. Gilroy made 15 of 17 free throw attempts in the game and went 11-for-11 from the line in the second half.

MILTON PLAYED THREE GAMES IN TWO DAYS-     p.s.  They won all three!!
Milton has run to 19-2 this year and remain a "team to watch" in AAA in PA. Tony Fannick, Jr. is over 2,100 + points so far and counting. In a busy weekend for the team, Milton had a league game on Friday and a rare 2 game Saturday (2:30 PM and another game at 7:30 PM the same day). During this 3 game stretch, Tony had 81 points combined and Milton won all 3. The first one on Friday was a 10 point win over Danville and the last two were blowouts by 30 points each over Lake Lehman and Columbia Montour Vo-Tech).

1/6/07,   Anthony Fannick scored a season-high 33 points -- including 18 on the strength of six 3-pointers -- as the Milton Black Panthers cruised to a 68-47 victory over Shikellamy to go to 11-2.   (The Daily Item)

1/3/08, Kennett High senior guard Verena Woloson became just the fourth female athlete in school history to join the illustrious 1,000-point club.Woloson accomplished the feat while the Lady Blue Demons were competing in the West Chester East Holiday Tournament. (The Kennett Paper)

 

12/14/07, Shea Wassel, a 5-foot-9 freshman forward for the Lansdale Catholic Crusaders, scored a game-high 23 points with five field goals and 13-for-16 foul shooting. She shot 11-for-14 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.

12/21/07, Tiffani Downey, Derry Area had 37 points in leading the Lady Trojans 70-44 over Southmoreland - the previous mark of 36 points was set by Jamie Sweeney during the 1994-95 season. (Blairsville Dispatch)
12/18/07, For Highlands (7-0), a clingy, trapping defense leads to a lot of smooth, transition baskets.  Last week, in a 90-42 win over Kittanning, the Rams hit
16 3-pointers.
12/19/07,  The Williamsburg girls hit 14 three pointers in a 61-18 rout of Juniata Valley in high school girls pointers in basketball Tuesday.  Alicia Mingle netted a game-high 13 points, Danielle Peck contributed 12 points and eight steals, Jordan Hileman added 11 points, and Brittany Becker had 10 points.

The 2003 Senior Division MVP, Lopaka Hoohuli, (St. Marys) is pictured here with his two sisters, Kayla and Kiana.   On 12/03/07, Kayla, now a high school freshman (St. Marys) had 37 points in her second varsity game,  a 64-44 win over Johnsonburg.

Williams Valley 57 York Country Day 6 - Chuck Rodichok scored a game-high 16 points as the Vikings remained unbeaten with a rout of York Country Day.  The Vikings' defense held York Country Day to only three field goals in the game.

12/30/07-Star plays with bodyguards-Tyreke Evans (American Christian),  the two-time Associated Press Pennsylvania player of the year whose short list of colleges includes Memphis, Texas and Villanova  was driving when a cousin in the vehicle allegedly shot and killed a 19-year-old approaching on foot. So now bodyguards join him for his games. The 6-foot-6 guard,  had 30 points, four blocks and three steals Thursday despite sitting out most of the second half of American Christian's 100-50 victory over Atlantic City.  He went into his senior year averaging more than 33 points a game, inspiring talk that he would follow Chester product Jameer Nelson of the Orlando Magic to the NBA.  (Credit: Dave Burman)

Three other key returnees are senior PG Karon Burton, junior F Rahlir Jefferson and 6-6 senior F Russell Johnson. The Clippers will play a schedule that includes in-state toughs Harrisburg, Parkland, Jeannette (and two-sport star Terrell Pryor) and Philadelphia's Roman Catholic. 12/11/2007, Marian Catholic head coach Paul Brutto picked up his 500th career victory as the Fillies cruised past Mahanoy Area 67-34 in the Schuylkill League Division IV opener for both teams Monday night.

12/28/07, Joe Klebon’s 500th victory as a high school basketball coach came Friday night when Shamokin earned a berth in the 41st Shamokin Knights of Columbus Holiday Tournament final with a 57-41 victory over Southern Columbia.
12/19/07, California coach Phil Pergola notched his 500th career win in the Trojans' Class A Section 2 victory, 82-39, against West Greene. Pergola, in his 38th season, previously coached at Mon Valley Catholic, Charleroi, and Ringgold.

December 2, 2007, Tussey's Bailey wins 600th game--By John Hartsock, jhartsock@altoonamirror.com  Dave Bailey has been retired as a teacher at Tussey Mountain for four years.  On Saturday night Tussey clipped host Central, 48-47 in overtime in the championship game of the Giant Eagle Tipoff Tournament to give Bailey his 600th career coaching victory in his 35th coaching season.  Bailey’s career coaching record now stands at 600 wins, 266 losses.

12/31/07, Central Catholic boys' basketball coach Chuck Crummie got his 500th win 63-45 win against Council Rock South in the Williamsport tournament.  His record is 500-234 in his 28 seasons at Central Catholic. (Pittsburgh Post Gazette)

12/07, With 597 wins in his career, Jim Dooley (DeLone Catholic) will hit 600 before the 07-08 season ends.
