Individual  best performances


Greatest Playoff / Championship Performances --rising to the top to lead your team in one of the important games in the annals of Pennsylvania Basketball History.

1952, Don Tobin, Avalon scored 24 points including the game winning basket in a 64-62 win over Kutztown for the Class B State Championship.  It capped a 29-0 undefeated season for the Pittsburgh area team.

1954, Wilt Chamberlain, Overbrook scored 40 points in the Public League Championship Game, a 60-46 win over Northwest.  The 40 points stands as a Public League Championship record. Overbrook finished 20-0.

1954-55, Wilt Chamberlain, Overbrook scored 33 points (a tournament record) in the finals of the Farrell Lions Tournament and was named the MVP.  But, Farrell won the game 59-58 handing Overbrook their only loss over a two year period.  Farrell prepared for the game by having the second team use brooms in practice to simulate Wilt.  Find the box score  HERE.

1955,  Wilt Chamberlain, Overbrook scored 35 points in the City Championships Game (Public vs Catholic), a 83-42 win over West Catholic at the Penn Palestra.  The 35 points set a  Philadelphia City Playoff record for points by one player. That record still stands.

1957, Bob Mullery, Plymouth St. Vincent scored 40 points in Vincent's 76-65 win over St. Casimir of Pittsburgh in the Class B PCIAA State Championship Game.

1960, Ron Krick, West Reading scored 48 points in the Class C State Championship Game as West Reading defeated Commodore Perry 84-78.

1964, Dan Wetzel, Coudersport  had 50 against Clarion. It was an 80-65 win for Coudersport in the March 5, 1964 District Nine Class C Championship Game.  This stands as a District 9 Championship Game scoring record.

1964, Larry Miller, Catasauqua  single-handily carried his basketball team to a win over Steelton High School in a PIAA Eastern semi final in Hershey. He scored 46 of Catasauqua's 66 points, including the team's last 11 points.

1966, Tony Kinn, Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt drilled 44 in the PCIAA Class A State Championship game at the Harrisburg Farm Show Arena won by the Johnstown Bishop McCort "Crimson Crushers."

1977, Greg Manning, Steelton-Highspire scored 57 points against Nanticoke in the state quarter finals  at the Farm Show Building in Harrisburg on March 19 1977.  It's a Farm Show playoff record performance.

1988, Billy Owens, Carlisle scored 53 against Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the 1988 state Quad A State Championship game. This remains as the record performance for a State Championship Finals game.

2002, Gerry McNamara, Bishop Hannan scored a career-high 55 points in a 83-76 PIAA class AA Eastern Finals  win over Trinity  at Martz Hall  in Pottsville. The Golden Lancers (29-3) won their 18th straight and snapped Trinity's 43-game  winning streak.  (Scranton Times-Tribune archives
