A QUESTION FROM Terrence S. Jennings-does anyone know the answer?  Is 46 foul shots taken by one team in a game a record?      1979 Unionville HS vs. Pottsgrove HS at Ursinus College

Ref’s stole game, ended Unionville’s 23 game winning streak as the only undefeated team in PA at that time.  Unionville took only 16 fouls shots, two Pottsgrove players took more fouls shots (18 each) than entire Unionville team.  The Pottsgrove team took 46 foul shots and still needed 3 OT’s to stop Unionville handing the team it’s first loss of the season 57-59.  Is that the records for fouls shots taken by one team in a PA high school game?

If not is 46 foul shots’ a record for one team in district one playoffs?

Editor's note: we don't know the answer, but in a 1957 playoff game in District 9, St. Mary's vs Johnsonburg, I shot 21 foul shots myself in a winning effort over Johnsonburg in regulation time.  As a team, St. Mary's shot 40 foul shots and won the game 55-50.  Bill Gaffey, pahoops.org editor

Indiana defeated Uniontown, 81-74, in a Class AAA Section 3 game, and the foul statistics were unusual. Indiana was 37 of 59 from the free-throw line. Six Uniontown players fouled out. Uniontown, meanwhile, shot only 24 free throws and no one from Indiana fouled out.  The game was played at Indiana.  The 59 free-throw attempts were close to being in the top 10 nationally, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations record book. Four teams are tied for ninth with 64.  The national record for free-throw attempts in a game is 84, by Stanton Powell County, Ky., in 1972. The team made 70.  (Post Gazette, Mike White)
