District Playoffs
by Rodney Froth

Trivia answer- Delone Catholic opened the playoffs with 3 wins over Tulpehocken (66-49) and Wyomissing (59-45) and then Milton Hershey.  Their record is 24-3 to date.  100 wins at four schools: Jim Dooley their coach has already rung up 100+ wins at Shippensburg, Cumberland Valley, Gettysburg, and now at Delone.  No other coach in the history of Pennsylvania high school basketball can lay claim to accomplishing such a feat.  And speaking of feet, he still wears the signature saddle shoes!
Note: Franklin D. Roosevelt served as President from 1932 until his death in 1945.                              (

The high and the low in Districts:

HIGH SCORE. In District 12 AA, Strawberry Mansion left little "hope" when they blasted Hope (Philadelphia) 113-87 before sending home the highly regarded Prep Charter 66-53.

LOW SCORE. In District 3 A-- three point goals did not make the difference. Scotland School and York County Day School were tied at one three point goal per team, but when the smoke cleared, and the two point goals were counted, the final score read Scotland School 74 and York County Day School 5.  Five has to be an all-time state district level point low for one team!  Remember on February 7, 1964,  MMI of Freeland upset West Hazleton 7-5 in a regular season slow down by design game.  But this 74 to 5 score was for a district playoff game!

How about the undefeated teams:

On the boy's side, Reading (d-3), Coudersport (d-9), and Norristown (d-1) all remained undefeated after the initial rounds of district play.

On the girl's side, Methacton (d-1), Abington Heights (d-2), and Monessen (d-9) also all remained undefeated after the initial rounds of district play.

Sad ending:

On 2/6/08, the Central Mountain Lady Wildcats, tied the school record for most wins by a basketball program with 22 with a 48-38 victory over Bellefonte and stood 22-0.  Then they lost three straight and their season is now over and they go to the sidelines.
