Sam Bowie visits the Annville-Cleona Basketball Camp

Thanks to the New Klick-Lewis Automobile
who sponsored the Camp-Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick- Need a car and a good deal, call Ron Urich at 554-5650!

Sam Bowie, was  named "Lebanon's  living legend" by the Lebanon Daily News when he entered the 2,000 point career circle on February 3, 1979 with a 51 point outburst and a Lebanon victory over Lancaster Catholic, 100-66.

At camp Bowie asked the young players if they remembered the name of the college player drafted after him in the NBA-and as most people always remember, it was Michael Jordan.  But what many people do not remember, Sam Bowie was chosen to play in the 1980 Olympics, but never had the opportunity when the United States did not participate.

It was a fun day at camp with one of the true gentleman from NBA basketball.  Commissioner Stern can be proud that the NBA has had such class acts as Sam Bowie as part of the league's history.  In the photo: (left to right), Sam Bowie, Mike Gaffey (camp director), Scotty Gaffey (camp foul shooting champ).  The camp ran from Monday to Friday June 18-22 in the new Annville-Cleona Athletic Complex.

Trivia fact: Ron Urich was a 1,000 point scorer at Elizabethtown College after a successful career at East Pennsboro High School. Trivia fact: Sam Bowie and Kentucky lost to Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament.  Georgetown with Patrick Ewing went on to win the Championship!
