Coach
Tom Hendershot (Bowie, MD) pictured on the left in this photo taken at
the first game, was one of the driving forces to get the Pennsylvania /
Maryland series started. He and Coach Mike Gaffey (Palmyra
coach at the time) conceived the idea at a summer basketball camp. It
soon became reality. |
1992. At Hersheypark Arena, PA. Pennsylvania 128 Maryland 93. Rashaan Carlton (Penn State), Zeffy Penn (Villanova), Matt Walker (Mt. St. Marys), and Robert Tate (the Minnesota Viking) led PA to a win in the very first game of this series.
1993. At Hersheypark Arena, PA. Pennsylvania 107 Maryland 88 Leading scorers: Damien Cosby (MD) 22, Tom Pipkins (PA): Pittsburgh Valley 19.
1994. At Cumberland Valley H. S. Mechanicsburg, PA. Maryland 114 Pennsylvania 106 Leading scorers: Sarunas Jasikevicius (PA): Solanco 20, Damien Owens (MD) 25.
1995. At Cumberland Valley H. S. Mechanicsburg, PA. Pennsylvania 125 Maryland 116 Leading scorers: Kevin Worley (MD) 24, Andre Howard (PA): Philadelphia Overbrook 22.
1996. At Cumberland Valley H. S.
Mechanicsburg, PA. Pennsylvania 127 Maryland 103 Travis Wealand (Ephrata)
and Brian Lindsay (Gettysburg) led Pennsylvnaia with 22 points each. Lindsay set
an All-Star record with 6 three point goals and was named the MVP.
1996. In the Girls
Game, Maryland 89 Pennsylvania 85 (overtime). Leading scorers: McCray (Maryland)
and Lynne Wagner (PA): Central Dauphin.
1997. At Cumberland Valley H. S.
Mechanicsburg, PA. Pennsylvania 119 Maryland 96. Leading scorers: Sam
Sutton (PA) York High School 18, Kenneth Cox (MD) and Henry Roscoe (MD) 20.
1997. In the
Girls Game, Maryland 83 Pennsylvania 64 Leading scorers: Cara Consuegra (MD) 17,
Gina Zang (PA) : West Scranton 13.
1998. At Cumberland Valley H. S.
Mechanicsburg, PA. Maryland engineered a rare double-dip, defeating
Pennsylvania in both the boy's and the girl's game. The Maryland Boy's behind
Larry Tucker of Baltimore Dunbar (24 points), Andre Jackson of Gynn Park (21
points),and Patrick Doctor (Gynn Park) 19 points defeated the Pennsylvania
Boy's 97-92. Kevin DeVan of Susquehanna Twp.with 13 points was named the PA
MVP.
1998. The Maryland Girls led by Terrana Pyfrom of Riverdale Baptist (14 points) defeated the Pennsylvania Girls 73-59. Jessica Lentz of Lebanon led the PA
Girls with 13.
1999. At Cumberland Valley H. S. Mechanicsburg, PA. The Pennsylvania Girls defeated the Maryland Girls 77-61.The win for the Pennsylvania Girls was their first in the four year series. Erin Brady (Marian Catholic) with 13, Alicia Hartlaub (ELCO) with 12, and April Collier (York) with 10 led the Pennsylvania Girls.
1999. The Pennsylvania Boys defeated Maryland 124 to 114, two Chester High School stars, Andre Morton and Assad Brown each had 24 points to lead the high scoring Pennsylvania Boys, while Pierre Johnson (Duval) exploded for a record shattering 42 points to lead the Maryland attack.
2000. At Cumberland Valley H. S.
Mechanicsburg, PA. The Pennsylvania Boys scored a 116 to 106 win over
Maryland. Charlie Copp of Tulpehocken scored 23 to lead Pennsylvania.
2000.The Pennsylvania Girls won 80-62. Emily Swingler of Columbia and Kristen Cuff
of
Pottsville Nativity were named the co-MVP's for PA. Jayne Boyer of Hempfield added
10 points and 5 rebounds to help the PA victory.
2001. At Hempfield H. S. Landisville, PA. The Maryland Boys
ran roughshod over Pennsylvania 145 to 125 in the highest total scoring game in
the series history.
MVP"S Justin Reares of Maryland and Jerry Johnson of Lancaster McCaskey.
2001. The Maryland Girls made it a sweep by defeating Pennsylvania 59 to 39

2002. At Steelton-Highspire H. S., Steelton, PA. GIRLS 69, MD. GIRLS 49

Kenton Alston (Steelton) and Jaren Burdine (Reading) each had 16 and Dewayne
Spencer (Susquehanna Twp) had 17 to lead the balanced Pennsylvania attack.

PA Boys Dustin Salisbery (Lancaster) had 22 and Danny Lansannah (Harrisburg) 15
Maryland Boys Derrick Davis (St. Maria Goretti) had 18 and Rashaud Nixon (Oxon
Hill) had 16. Slam Dunk Champion was Tariq Bond of Maryland .
2003 PA Girls 77 Maryland Girls 75 Two free throws by Ashley Heckard with 2 ticks
remaining brought the PA girls to victory. Jess Uhrich of Palmyra was the
leading scorer and rebounder for the PA girls. 6'0" Shanna Shirey led the
Maryland girls with 16 points.
2004. At C. D. East H. S., Harrisburg, PA
2005. At Steel High, Steelton, PA,
Pennsylvania Boys 125 Maryland 108. Josh Inadagbo ad 21 for Maryland

2005. Maryland Girls 82 Pennsylvania Girls
81 (overtime). Chandrea Jones (Institute of Notre Dame) 22 for Maryland
and Kaitlyn Murray (Trinity) 13 for Pennsylvania.
2007. Lamar Drayton and Zech Runkle of Harrisburg led the Pennsylvania boy's to a 92-84 win over Maryland in the 31st Annual Roundball Classic,
2008. The Pennsylvania All-Stars won for the 15th time in a 19-game series with Maryland, riding 21-point efforts from Steel-High's Josh Proctor and Greencastle-Antrim's Dameatric Scott to a 110-100 victory. Fred Pickett (Chester) and Michael Pilsitz (Steelton) two State Championship Coaches led the Pennsylvania boy's team. Maryland Girls 97 PA Girls 74-half of the 10 Maryland players were committed to Division I schools. Pennsylvania could counter that advantage with big-time recruits Shawnice Wilson (Pitt) of Pittsburgh Westinghouse and Becky Burke (South Carolina) of Abington Heights.
