Do you have a couple of hours?
We don't, so here's what we can say.
The Indians captured a 93-85 boys basketball victory at Giant Center that was about as good a game as you'll see, with as many plot twists as several Harlan Coben novels.
Oh, yeah, it took four overtimes.
Until 3:40 of the second overtime, the Blue Devils never had a lead. Then, with 2:11 left, Jordan Gembe sank a pair of foul shots to give G-A a 67-63 advantage.
"I thought it was over then," Gembe said.
Not so fast. As gutty a comeback as Greencastle made, Susquehanna had one in its heart, too. Greg Edwards canned a huge 3-pointer to make it 67-66, then Ben Dupree made a steal and layup to put the Indians back in front, 68-67.
Gembe, who finished with a yeoman-like 28 points, made four more free throws, but Edwards again hit a tough layup to tie it 71-17 after two OTs.
By this point, G-A warrior Dameatric Scott, who had poured in a career high 39 points, had fouled out. That left it up to Gembe to be the main scoring option.
So he hit a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws (he was 12-for-12 at the line in the overtimes) and Andrew Cordell drained a three on his only shot of the game. Then Rusty Cordell (10 points) sank a pair of foul shots and it was 81-81 going into the fourth OT.
That's when the magic stopped for the Devils,
who fell behind, had to foul and had a
parade of players -- five in all -- foul
out.
Although ST made only 20 of 47 free
throws in the game (15 of 40 in the OTs),
it got enough chances to finally put
away the resilient Blue Devils.
G-A (22-5) will now play in a consolation game for third place on Thursday, site and time to be determined. ST will face Steel-High for the championship Thursday at Giant Center.
"That was one for the memory banks," Devil coach Garon Gembe said. "We ran out of players. We laughed at Duke having five foul out last night, then it happened to us. But what a tremendous effort."
Indian coach Vince Rogers said, "I've got to give (Jordan) Gembe a lot of credit. Without Scott in there, we knew they'd go to him, but he hit some big baskets and didn't miss at the line."
Scott, however, was the man in regulation. He hit only one 3-pointer, but scored on a wide variety of shots and hit the offensive boards hard.
"I thought we gave a good effort and we gave it our all," Scott said. "It was one of the best games I've ever seen, or played in."
Edwards led the Indians with 25 points, Matt Jones had 19 and Akeem Wilson, who hurt G-A on the boards in overtime with three putbacks, had 17.
Garon Gembe said, "It's painful, but it'll be great to look back on this game at some point. The kids gave it everything they had."
