5’9” Andre Gibbs scored 14 points and handed out 5 assists to lead the Smyrna Boys High School Basketball team to a 34 -25 Championship victory over Pitman (NJ) in the finals of the Widener University (PA) Basketball Team Camp Showcase in Chester (PA) on Sunday June 21st.
The showcase featured 28 teams from South Jersey, Delaware, and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Gibbs, who is a rising sophomore in the class of 2012, also scored 29 points in a 44-38 semifinal win over Sacred Heart (NJ). The Eagles were first in Pool D with a 4-1 record. Andrew was the most impressive player in the team camp showcase. All his teammates contributed to the Championship victory.
Other players who stepped up and played good team ball and great defense throughout the camp were 6’4” rising Junior Derrick Boyd, 5’9” rising Sophomore Jamere Heath, 6’5” Senior to be Bradley Forest-Jones, and rising 5’11” Senior Matt Stork. The Eagles should be one of the Top Ten Teams in Delaware for the 2009 -2010 season.
Concord High School and Wilmington Friends High School also participated in the 28 Team Camp Showcase. The raiders of Concord also played very impressively by posting a 4 – 0 record in Pool C. They came very close to getting to the Championship game but were beaten by Pitman (NJ) 50-47 in the semifinals. The Delaware teams really let the Philadelphia area know there is a lot of talent in Delaware.
